'How to build a great business in tough times' - the King of Shaves story is now on WH Smith shelves, and even better, is 'Business Book of the Month'. I snapped this pic when I saw it at WH Smith in Gatwick Airport this morning, returning from my holiday at Kingfisher, Grenada WI! It's also available to order from Amazon, link here!
Surreal!

Hi Will
Just a note to say how inspired I have been reading your book. I've just left the corporate world after 20 years to set up my own ventures (like you I have two or 3 on the go at present!).
The language and the illustrations you use make your book one of the most useful texts that I have ever read - Thank you!
IN reading it, I stumbled on some uncanny parallels with my current situation - amongst them: same bank (HSBC), one of my companies is called Creative Change (similar to your Australian distributors), I, too believe in the power of the internet and am trying to use it to grow awareness of my company (blog, reading list etc)....I could go on and on!
From your book, I was particularly impacted by:
Tiggers!
Your inspirational drive and passion for what you believe in.
How nothing daunted you.
How you align with your purpose
Thanks for sharing your experiences and for writing such a great book. You certainly have inspired me as I am sure you have inspired many over the years
Wishing you every success with KoS (a product that I have used since being introduced to it in the late 90s by a friend)
Rgds

Hi Will, just finished your story.
I saw the book on a shelf in a WH Smiths located in a Sheffield Train Station. I had a 20 pound note burning a hole in my pocket, given to me by my old boss (today has been my last day at work and having dropped off my company car my boss gave me 20 quid for taxi/a sandwich on the way home) and i saw the title to your book. thats what grabbed me;
(At this point I should confess that prior to buying the book I had only tried KoS once, back before i could grow any real beard-like-hair on my face and when shaving was more in hope that I'll wake up the following morning with more hair looking like a bearded George Clooney. Alas, even with the ability to now grow facial hair I still can't get that look.)
the title grabbed me because - im kind of at the crossroads you were in the early 90's. im passionate about music and have built a reputation, with those in the know, as a tastemaker/hotshot who's about to achieve notable success for his artists but and this is the big BUT, the only way to do it is to build the label myself (I have many of the elements already - distribution-registered business-my "Herbie") - there are many principles in the book which have struck a beautiful chord and i thank you for that.
But your book throws up a couple of questions, that if i may be so bold as to ask;
a) when you gaimned investment from your family/friends initially, what terms did you give them?
b) how did you survive in the first 3 years, with no profit to speak of and no official wage?
If you have the time to answer these i would be most grateful.
thanks again - loved the book, and officially had my first pro shave earlier today.
All the best,
SJ
