I saw the latest piece of viral marketing from Carlsberg on a website yesterday. Supposedly the notes have been 'dropped' in strategic places around London. It made me smile, it's a great extension of their long running campaign, and even if this is not really part of their marketing, it ought to be!

Carlsberg - quality advertising!
As head of design at KMI I was wondering what the thinking was behind the new KOS packaging? I think its great, if not a bit random as some are clear so you can see the product whilst others aren't?
Also do you find it hard to get the new packaging out onto the shelves - currently at my local store there are 3 different packaging designs for the same face wash!
Keep up the good work - KOS rocks!

It depends which new packaging you are talking about... :-)
The 'chevron' design (actually a 'K' on its side) was introduced two years ago and uses a colour band to frame the contents (where possible) to help customers differentiate between our products. Also introduced at this time was uniform 'top' colour for shaving products and a different one for skin care products.
Basically we try to show the product when it looks good! For instance our shaving gels look quite attractive whilst the moisturisers are solid white / cream and don't benefit from a clear window on the pack.
As for the different designs for the face wash, the reason for this is one of two things... Firstly, we actually make at least three different types of face wash (K-1ST 180G Face Wash, Primer 90G Face Wash and Active Skin Cleansing Face Wash) all of which have their own design. The other reason is that the retailer has not been rotating stock very well and has managed to not sell through old pack designs before placing newer ones on the shelves.
I also think King of Shaves rocks! That's why I work here.
Thanks for your comments.
